Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and its airline and cargo partners have completed new multi-year agreements that will shape the airport’s growth over the next decade. The finalized Airline Use and Lease Agreements and Signatory Cargo Agreements set out the financial and operational structure to support AUS’s daily operations and a significant expansion program.
The agreements lay the groundwork for airport revenues that will fund a multi-billion-dollar expansion, which now includes plans for 32 new airline gates. They detail major capital projects planned for the next ten years, define how rates and charges are calculated, and secure long-term commitments from airlines and cargo companies operating at AUS.
Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, FedEx, and UPS are among the signatory partners. The agreements cover how fees are assessed for facilities such as runways, gates, ticket counters, baggage systems, and aircraft parking. This ensures a cost-recovery model to support ongoing investment and maintain financial stability.
Key projects supported by these agreements include a new 26-gate Concourse B designed to handle passenger growth; a new Arrivals and Departures Hall aimed at modernizing airport access, expanding baggage claim space, and centralizing TSA screening; a 6-gate Concourse M for added flexibility; redevelopment of Concourse A in the Barbara Jordan Terminal; and campus-wide upgrades to utilities like power, cooling, water, and IT systems.
As project scope has grown with rising passenger demand and airline needs, total program costs are expected to increase from $4 billion to more than $5 billion.
These steps aim to help AUS support Central Texas’s continued growth by strengthening regional connectivity and providing long-term economic benefits for Austin’s business community.
