City of Austin Utilities is responding to the ongoing federal government shutdown by offering support to customers affected by disruptions in SNAP benefits. Austin Energy, which oversees customer care and billing for City of Austin Utilities, has reported that about one-third of participants who qualify for the Customer Assistance Program (CAP) do so through their enrollment in SNAP.
The utility also provides other Customer Assistance Programs to help residents facing financial challenges.
In addition, Austin Energy is inviting community members to its annual Community Connections Resource Fair. The event is free and open to families, aiming to connect attendees with more than 100 service providers from the City of Austin, local nonprofits, and other organizations.
This year’s fair will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eastside Early College High School, located at 900 Thompson St., Austin, TX 78702.
The Community Connections Resource Fair will offer various resources and information for those seeking assistance during the government shutdown.
