Austin Energy, Austin Water, and Austin Resource Recovery are collaborating this winter to help residents prepare for cold weather. The utilities will host an emergency preparedness event at the City of Austin’s north and south Utilities Customer Service Centers on December 3 and 4. Staff from the Austin Fire Department’s Wildfire Division and Austin Emergency Management will also participate to provide emergency information.

At the event, customers can see hands-on demonstrations, receive free items such as meter keys, hose bib covers, hand-crank radios, solar-powered chargers, ice scrapers, emergency kit supplies, and winter readiness guides. Supplies are limited, so organizers recommend arriving early.

The north center event is scheduled for December 3 at 8716 Research Blvd., Suite 115 from 8 to 11 a.m., or while supplies last. The south center event takes place on December 4 at 1901 W. William Cannon Dr., Suite 100 during the same hours.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about emergencies by tuning in for alerts.
