Austin-based Brohn Homes has entered the Houston housing market by acquiring the Houston division of HistoryMaker Homes. The deal, which closed on December 12, provides Brohn with a direct presence in Greater Houston and includes a team of 30 employees led by Roderick Flint. The acquisition also gives Brohn access to active or planned projects in 13 master-planned communities such as Sunterra in Katy, Attwater near Waller, Fulshear Lakes in Fort Bend County, Sierra Vista in Iowa Colony, and Azalea in Pattison.
HistoryMaker Homes has been active in Houston since 2016. Last year, the company closed on 247 homes and began construction on another 238, ranking it as the 32nd largest builder by volume in the area. Following this transaction, HistoryMaker will focus its operations exclusively on Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio.
Nelson Mitchell, CEO of HistoryMaker Homes, commented on the decision: “The companies’ shared values made the move a ‘natural alignment.’”
Brohn Homes has operated out of Austin since its founding in 2003 and was acquired by Clayton Properties Group—a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary—in 2018. Earlier this year, Brohn expanded into San Antonio. Chief Operating Officer Greg Barber said that entering Houston had long been part of their growth strategy.
With this acquisition, Brohn’s workforce grows from about 80 employees in Austin to roughly 110 across Texas. The company aims to build up to 1,000 homes annually in Houston within five years. This target positions Brohn among numerous national and regional builders competing for buyers and resources as the local housing market remains strong despite cooling from pandemic highs.
