The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These files enable users to create custom maps using various data sources.
Among the new features are Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These products provide information on blocks from 2020 as well as current blocks that have been split since then. The data can be linked with the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data offered by the Census Bureau include legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries, along with roads and hydrography. This geographic boundary information can be connected to upcoming 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov, allowing users to visualize census tabular data on maps.
Although TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they include geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that allow linking with the bureau’s demographic datasets. Users seeking guidance on which product to select can refer to the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
According to the Census Bureau: “No news release associated with this product. Tip sheet only.”
