Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the City of Brownwood will co-host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, October 6. The event will take place both virtually and in person at the Lehnis Railroad Museum and Visitor Center in Brownwood.

“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in Brownwood, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”

Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will participate in the workshop to explain what it means to be designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. Mascorro will also discuss benefits of certification and answer questions from attendees.

The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was introduced by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind nationally. It aims to help cities build networks that support music industry growth and signals their commitment to attracting professionals in this sector. This workshop marks Brownwood’s initial step toward certification. Upon completion, Brownwood would join more than 85 other cities in Texas with this designation.

The workshop is open to musicians, venue operators, and members of the public who wish to attend either online or in person.
