Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Film Commission have announced a Film Friendly Texas Workshop scheduled for Thursday, October 16, in Odessa. The event is aimed at communities interested in job creation and economic growth through media production by becoming Film Friendly Texas Certified Communities.
“Texas’ growing media production industry supports local jobs and creates revenue in communities across our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract new investments in media production, and create high-paying jobs for Texans. I invite all Texas communities to attend this workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Film Friendly Texas Community.”
The workshop will be cohosted by the Texas Film Commission and Discover Odessa. It will include professional development sessions such as “How to Become a Film Friendly Texas Certified Community.” Participation in one of these workshops is required for certification.
Community leaders employed by city or county governments, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, or local economic development corporations who will serve as designated liaisons for media production inquiries are encouraged to attend.
The event will take place at the Holiday Inn Odessa on 5275 E 42nd Street from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with registration beginning at 8:00 AM. Additional information and registration details can be found at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_workshops.
Since its launch in 2007, the Film Friendly Texas Certified Community program has grown to include more than 200 certified communities focused on developing local media production industries for job creation and economic expansion. More about the program is available at https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview.
For over five decades, the Texas Film Commission within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office has promoted Texas as a destination for film, television, commercial projects, animation, visual effects, video games, and extended reality productions.
