Governor Greg Abbott has appointed JoMeka Gray to the State Board for Educator Certification, with her term running until February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for developing certification and continuing education requirements as well as standards of conduct for public school teachers.
JoMeka Gray, who lives in Belton, serves as the district and campus teacher leader at Kennedy-Powell STEM Elementary in Temple Independent School District. She has over 12 years of experience in education, having previously taught first grade at Killeen ISD and both kindergarten and first grade at Temple ISD. Gray has also contributed to the Contemporary Relevance Committee.
Her professional affiliations include membership in the Texas State Teacher Association, the Texas Classroom Teacher Association, and the National Education Association. In addition to her educational work, she volunteers with the Girl Scouts in Central Texas.
Gray holds a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. Her credentials include an Early Childhood National Board Certification, Generalist (EC-6) Certification, and English as a Second Language Supplemental Certification.
