Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Robert Eckels as Chair of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Eckels will serve on the commission until November 15, 2027. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission oversees and regulates the state’s alcoholic beverage industry.

Eckels, a resident of Spring, is an attorney of counsel at Husch Blackwell LLP and serves as general counsel for Greffex, Inc. He previously served six terms in the Texas State Legislature and was elected County Judge of Harris County. His experience includes advisory roles to President George W. Bush and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Eckels holds memberships with several bar associations, including those in Texas, New York, Colorado, and Washington D.C. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a board leadership fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors. His past service includes chairing the Texas County and District Retirement System and leading roles in county associations.

He is also involved in community organizations such as the Rotary Club of Houston and K9s 4 Cops, where he serves as president. Eckels has been active with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s International Committee.

Eckels earned a Bachelor of Science in Technology from the University of Houston and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law.
