Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott visited Center Point Independent School District (CISD) to distribute laptops to students affected by the severe flooding that occurred over the Fourth of July. The distribution aims to help students maintain their education as recovery efforts continue.
“Today, as children return to school, we want make sure they have every tool available to them to help them succeed,” said Governor Abbott. “We know how essential a laptop is to the education process, and that’s why we are proud to join AT&T and Compudopt to ensure you all have access to your very own laptop.”
The laptops were provided through a partnership involving AT&T, Compudopt, The Center Point Alliance for Progress, CISD, and The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.
During his remarks at the event, Governor Abbott highlighted the importance of supporting families who suffered significant losses due to the floods. He thanked AT&T, Compudopt, the Center Point Alliance for Progress, and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country for their contributions in helping students remain connected and engaged with their studies.
Governor Abbott also met with families impacted by the disaster, listened to their experiences, paid tribute to those lost during the floods, and reiterated his commitment to ongoing support.
In response to recent flooding events across Texas Hill Country and beyond, Governor Abbott has taken several actions. These include extending FEMA’s Individual Assistance registration period for flood victims; delivering checks from relief funds such as Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund; working with community foundations on long-term funding exceeding $40 million; securing federal disaster assistance for counties like Uvalde; celebrating infrastructure reopenings such as Cow Creek Bridge; expanding eligibility for SNAP replacement benefits; updating state disaster declarations as more communities are affected; announcing micro-business recovery loans up to $5 million; granting funds totaling over $1.9 million for hospitals in Kerrville and Llano damaged by floods; visiting impacted areas alongside federal officials including President Trump and General Steven Nordhaus of the National Guard Bureau; launching emotional support resources for flood survivors; directing ongoing emergency operations statewide; and providing updates on these efforts as conditions evolve.
