Governor Greg Abbott participated in a check presentation event with the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund, distributing financial aid to families from the Leander area who were affected by the severe flooding on July 4th. This marks the third such event attended by Abbott to deliver funds directly to residents whose primary homes suffered damage or destruction.

The relief funds originate from the “Strait to the Heart” benefit concert held earlier this summer. The concert was hosted by musician George Strait and Estancia Estates Founder Tom Cusick, raising over $6 million for Texans impacted by flooding.

“We know you’ve been challenged in extraordinary ways,” said Governor Abbott. “We want to be able to be a part of the process, not just now but in an ongoing way, to help you respond to those challenges. The financial assistance you leave with today will help you deal with the devastation left behind by the flooding. Our hope is that this check will assist you all in a meaningful way in the rebuilding process.”

Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd joined Governor Abbott at the event.

Last month, Governor Abbott visited Leander to announce that Cow Creek bridge—destroyed during the July 4th floods—had reopened.

Photos from today’s event are expected to be made available at a later date.
