Governor Greg Abbott spoke at the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce “State of the State” luncheon, highlighting legislative achievements from the 89th Legislature. The event brought together state and local officials, including Representative David Cook, Representative Pat Curry, Representative Angelia Orr, McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara, and Waco Mayor Jim Holmes.
In his remarks, Governor Abbott emphasized Texas’ standing as a leading state for business development and job creation. He stated: “Together, we are shaping the Texas economy as the best state for business development, job opportunities, and exports,” said Governor Abbott. “We will continue to remove the red tape and take strategic steps to remain the No. 1 state for doing business. Thank you to the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, small business owners, and the countless innovators who keep Texas tough and resilient.”
The Governor credited efforts by organizations like the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce for contributing to Waco’s growth within Texas’ broader economic landscape. He also pointed out that new laws passed during this session have addressed several key areas such as reducing property taxes and strengthening infrastructure.
Abbott discussed progress on emergency items he previously outlined in his State of the State address. He said that recent legislation has cut regulatory barriers, reduced property taxes, improved reliability in Texas’ electric grid system, and expanded school choice options for families across the state.
Concluding his speech, Governor Abbott reiterated his commitment to child safety measures: “At the conclusion of his remarks, the Governor promised that he will continue to fight for the safety of Texas children, and looks forward to swiftly signing camp safety legislation into law.”
