Governor Greg Abbott visited Lampasas to speak at the newly established Post Oak Ridge State Park. He addressed a group of sportsmen and emphasized the importance of expanding access to parks for Texas families.
“I want to thank the voters for passing the constitutional amendment that allowed not just the creation of this park, but allows us to be able to create parks like this for many years going forward,” said Governor Abbott. “It’s important that every family in our state and every child in our state is going to have access to more parks like this. This is a great day for the future of Texas and for the future of Texas generations.”
Abbott was joined by several officials, including Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director David Yoskowitz, Commission Chairman Paul Foster, Senator Charles Perry, Representative Armando Walle, other state and local officials, and members of the sportsmen community.
During his remarks, Abbott reflected on his experiences as a Boy Scout in East Texas. He expressed gratitude toward voters and legislators for creating the $1 billion Centennial Parks Fund. The fund aims to help more families connect with outdoor spaces and Texas heritage.
The Centennial Parks Fund was established in 2023 after voter approval of Proposition 14 as a constitutional amendment. The legislature allocated $1 billion to support new parks and improvements statewide. Post Oak Ridge State Park is one of three properties acquired using this fund.
Greg Abbott has led the executive office for Texas since 2014, focusing on economic development, education enhancement, border security efforts, job growth initiatives, individual liberties protection, parental empowerment in schooling, and community programs according to information from the official website.
