Texas Governor Greg Abbott met with U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to discuss recent legislative achievements in education during the 89th session. The meeting focused on initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for parents, students, and educators across the state.

Governor Abbott emphasized new investments in Texas education, including $8.5 billion in additional funding for public schools and $3.5 billion dedicated to teacher pay raises. He also referenced the passage of a school choice program that allows families more flexibility in selecting educational pathways for their children.

“Texas parents, students, and educators now have more opportunities to reach their full potential,” said Governor Abbott. “We have taken monumental steps to make our state No. 1 in educating children.” He further noted: “I am proud of signing the nation’s largest day-one school choice program into law to empower Texas families to choose the education pathway that is best for their child.”

Secretary McMahon shared observations from her visit to Alpha School’s Austin Campus, where she met with graduates who are currently attending college. She commented on how Texas schools are using artificial intelligence as a tool for learning. “The innovation of Texas schools using artificial intelligence is a beneficial tool to assist students in learning how to ask the right questions to better understand educational materials,” said Secretary McMahon.

Additional photos from the meeting will be made available when released.
