Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. “Mike” Lewis as the Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner, extending his term until July 12, 2031. The commissioners oversee the implementation of the Sabine River Compact, an agreement between Texas, Louisiana, and the United States that governs water use and management along the Sabine River.

Michael H. “Mike” Lewis is an investigator with the Newton County District Attorney’s office. He also serves on several local boards and committees, including the Jasper/Newton County Health Board, Newton County Investment Committee, and Newton County Bid Review Committee. In addition to these roles, he is a county committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and a member of Rainbow Masonic Lodge #735.

Lewis served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1970 to 1971 before receiving an honorable discharge. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University.
