Governor Abbott reappoints Weldon Riggs to water conservation district

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Weldon Riggs to serve on the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District, with a term ending February 1, 2029. The district is responsible for managing and protecting underground water resources in Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, and Frio counties.

Weldon Riggs is from the Black Hill Community in Atascosa County and works as a cattle rancher, raising angus cattle in both Atascosa and Bexar counties. He is involved with several organizations, including serving as a member and former director of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas. Riggs is also a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas State Teachers Association.

His community service includes being a committeeman for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition School Tours Committee and construction co-chair for Christmas Village Ministries. Riggs also serves as an agricultural representative for the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group Region L, participates in the Blackhill Volunteer Fire Department, sits on the board of the South Texas Weather Modification Association, and holds positions as records sexton and former president of the Oak Island Cemetery Association.

Riggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and a Master of Education in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University.
