Texas Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed a disaster proclamation related to fire weather conditions affecting numerous counties across the state. The original proclamation was issued on August 10, 2025, and has been updated in response to ongoing elevated fire risks.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management confirmed that increased fire weather conditions continue in several counties. In his official statement, Governor Abbott said: “I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer, Armstrong, Atascosa, Austin… Zapata, and Zavala Counties.”

Governor Abbott authorized the use of all available resources from state government and political subdivisions as necessary to address the situation. He also suspended certain regulatory statutes or rules that might hinder emergency response efforts during this declared disaster.

The Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott is responsible for leading executive functions for the state government. The office focuses on areas such as economic development, education enhancement, border security initiatives like Operation Lone Star, and community support efforts. Its primary offices are located in Austin at the State Insurance Building according to its official website.

Governor Abbott’s administration has contributed to job growth and record employment levels in Texas. Since his election in 2014, he has led statewide initiatives including child sex trafficking prevention and collaborations with businesses for economic expansion (source). The office operates as part of the executive branch of Texas state government.

The proclamation requires copies to be filed with applicable authorities. The order was signed by Governor Abbott in Austin on January 8, 2026, and attested by Deputy Secretary of State Dave Nelson.

“Any regulatory statute prescribing the procedures for conduct of state business or any order or rule of a state agency that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor,” stated Abbott’s order.
