A Houston estate designed to resemble a European castle has returned to the market with a $59.9 million price tag, targeting buyers more accustomed to coastal real estate values. The property, known as the Lodge at Hunters Creek and located at 107 Timberwilde Lane, is now listed for about $2,723 per square foot.
This listing represents the highest publicly listed home price in Texas, according to data from the Houston Association of Realtors. The 22,000-square-foot mansion sits on nine acres overlooking Buffalo Bayou and is represented by Carol Wolfe of Coldwell Banker. Wolfe took over the listing from a previous agent and increased the asking price by $10 million compared to last year.
Wolfe said she believes Houston’s growing population of wealthy individuals may see value in what she described as a “fortress-level” property that offers craftsmanship and materials similar to those found in high-end markets such as Beverly Hills or Palm Beach. “Estates of this scale and pedigree often command $80 million to $100 million in other markets,” Wolfe told the outlet, adding that Houston’s luxury homes are undervalued by national standards.
The estate first appeared on the market in 2022 for $60 million, briefly rose to $65 million in 2023, then dropped to $49.9 million before being removed from listings later that year. The home was completed in 2005 after six years of construction and features a 3,500-square-foot guest house along with staff quarters.
Seller Colleen Romanov built the mansion using limestone sourced from an Indiana quarry known for supplying stone used in landmarks like the Empire State Building and Pentagon. The design reflects Richardson Romanesque architecture while incorporating modern amenities such as hidden doors, integrated technology systems, carved mahogany woodwork, and a two-story library with iron accents.
Additional features include manicured gardens, a pool house, and a guesthouse styled after Texas Hill Country residences—all situated within gated grounds in Memorial Villages.
Wolfe referenced another notable sale: a 27,000-square-foot mansion at 120 Carnarvon sold for over $21 million in 2022—approximately $778 per square foot—making it previously Houston’s most expensive residential transaction. The Romanov estate’s current asking price is nearly three times higher on a per-square-foot basis.
In recent years, Houston has seen significant growth among high-value property transactions. Sales of homes priced above $10 million surged by 75 percent year-over-year in 2023. Additionally, the number of millionaires living in Houston has increased by roughly 75 percent over the past decade to about 82,000 residents.
