IAM members from across Alabama recently met in Huntsville for the IAM Union Alabama State Council meeting. The event brought together union members, community leaders, and political candidates to address issues important to working families in the state.
The meeting began with a welcome from Huntsville City Council Member Michelle Watkins, who represents District 1. Delegates discussed legislative priorities, organizing efforts, and political engagement. Topics included protecting service contract jobs, increasing manufacturing opportunities, supporting union rights, and making sure working people have representation in government.
IAM Union Alabama State Council President Rickie Langford said, “When working people in Alabama stand together, there is no force more powerful. This meeting was about uniting our voices and building our strength across the political aisles for the road ahead.”
Several political leaders and labor advocates spoke at the council, such as State Representatives Anthony Daniels and Laura Hall, Dr. Will Boyd (candidate for governor), U.S. Representative Brandon Moore (candidate for U.S. Senate), and union officials including Loren Almeroth, Galen Bullock, DeLane Adams, Nicole Fears, Frederick Ross, Pam Evans, Helena Thornton, and Jacob Morrison.
Speakers discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Alabama workers and emphasized the IAM’s commitment to supporting labor voices throughout the state.
Delegates also received updates on the government shutdown and learned about the IAM’s ongoing work to secure back pay for federal contract workers affected by the political situation in Washington.
The Alabama State Council continues to help shape the IAM’s political and legislative work in the state. Attendees left the meeting with renewed motivation to engage in political action.
The executive board of the Alabama State Council includes Rickie Langford (President), Gavin Brunner (Secretary Treasurer), James Tate (VP North), Joe Cleveland (VP North), Anthony Holton (VP South), and Michelle Hunt (VP South).
