Houston is seeing the expansion of a major pickleball franchise, The Picklr, which has begun opening clubs in the area as part of its larger growth strategy. The Utah-based company has chosen both existing retail spaces and new developments for its facilities.

The Picklr’s first Houston-area club opened at 8920 Barker Cypress Road in Cypress. This location, previously an ASI Gymnastics facility, now features pickleball courts and a pro shop within its 18,200 square feet. Memberships are currently offered at a discounted rate of $129 per month.

A second location is scheduled to open in February at 16590 Interstate 45 in Conroe. The facility will occupy 66,500 square feet in what was formerly a Burlington store. Designed by DXU Architects from Chicago, the $900,000 renovation will include 20 courts and make it one of Texas’s largest pickleball centers.

Additionally, The Picklr has secured space for a third venue: a 35,000-square-foot club in District West, part of Ferguson Family Partners’ $170 million mixed-use development underway in Cinco Ranch. This site is expected to open late next year.

The company intends to add five more Houston-area clubs by the end of 2027 but has not yet announced specific locations.

The Picklr’s investors include Chaifetz Group, Navigator Partners and Pickleball Inc., which owns the PPA Tour. According to the company, “Its rapid rollout is national: The Picklr opened its 50th club this month in Littleton, Colorado, and says another 70 are in the pipeline. More than 500 franchise agreements have been sold across the U.S., including 16 locations across the Texas Triangle.”

Most clubs operate under franchise agreements; however, some remain corporate-run for product and program testing purposes. Each Houston-area location involves different local franchisees.

Internationally, The Picklr is expanding into Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand through master franchise deals and working with JLL to identify markets throughout Europe.
