Rex Glendenning, a well-known land broker in North Texas, is considering relocating the headquarters of Rex Real Estate from Frisco to Celina, his hometown. Glendenning shared with the Dallas Business Journal that he plans to build a mass timber office building between 40,000 and 60,000 square feet. He intends for Rex Real Estate to occupy about a quarter of the space and lease out the remaining offices. Construction could begin next fall and is expected to take about 18 months.
Celina, located roughly 40 miles north of Downtown Dallas, has seen rapid population growth and now has about 30,000 residents. Two sites are under consideration for the new headquarters: King Place and Shawnee Trail. King Place is a 600-acre mixed-use development north of Glendenning Parkway with $40 million in infrastructure already installed. It connects to the Dallas North Tollway extension, which is set for completion in 2027. The second option is Shawnee Trail, a large-scale mixed-use project currently being built that will include Celina’s first Walmart Supercenter.
Glendenning’s ties to Celina go back generations; his family has lived there since the 1880s and still owns land where longhorn cattle graze at the future site of King Place.
Matthew Kiran, an agent at Rex Real Estate, said: “What the Bass family was to downtown Fort Worth, what the Carpenter family was to Los Colinas, and what the Trammell Crow family was to Dallas, the Glendennings are that for Celina.”
Glendenning indicated he favors King Place but wants to wait for progress on the tollway extension and secure appropriate partners before starting construction above ground level. He believes this project could draw significant corporate tenants similar to how Westlake attracted companies like Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments. Last year, Celina Mayor Ryan Tubbs described King Place as a symbol of Celina’s future growth linked closely with Glendenning’s vision.
Rex Real Estate has operated from Preston Road in Frisco for nearly twenty years.
