Sean Patrick Wade and his wife Martha Long sold their historic Houston home to the Remington Trust on March 9, according to public records released on April 10. The sale price was not disclosed, nor was the name of the individual buyer, as only a fiduciary is named in the deed. Laura Sweeney of Compass held the listing.
The house at 3 Remington Lane is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed in 1939 by architect John F. Staub for Margaret Cullinan, daughter of Texaco founder Joseph S. Cullinan. The two-story property features four bedrooms and seven bathrooms across 7,800 square feet on a 1.4-acre lot. A pool and hot tub were added in 2002.
Wade and Long first listed the home last April for $9.8 million after purchasing it in 2022 when it had been listed for $10 million. Over several months, they reduced the price multiple times before selling at $8.5 million, or about $1,080 per square foot—the highest residential sale in Houston last month according to the Houston Association of Realtors.
Located within Shadyside—a gated community developed by Joseph Cullinan near Rice University—the neighborhood has long been associated with Houston’s social elite. Notable events include one of Howard Hughes’ weddings taking place there and former Standard Oil president residing nearby; other Staub-designed landmarks are also present in Shadyside.
Recent transactions include Kenneth Moczulski selling a William Ward Watkin-designed home at 1 Longfellow Lane to Ashley Watt after listing it for $10.6 million last September.
Wade and Long also purchased another Staub-designed residence at 2110 River Oaks Boulevard last July for an asking price of $18.9 million—making it Harris County’s top residential sale that year—with Sweeney representing both sides.
