The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has opened its annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest, inviting students across the state to participate. The contest is available to public, private, and home-schooled students in grades six through twelve.

According to TCEQ, the goal is for students to learn about environmental protection and communicate this knowledge through a short video. Videos should be 30 seconds long and highlight positive actions Texans can take to keep air and water clean, conserve resources, or reduce waste. Each entry must include the slogan: “Take Care of Texas. It’s the only one we’ve got.”

Prizes are available for both high school and middle school participants. Three high school winners will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500. Three middle school winners will earn gift cards valued between $400 and $800 for camera equipment. Waste Management of Texas, Inc. is providing these prizes.

Entries must be submitted by December 5, 2025. Public voting will take place from January 14 to January 24, 2026. After public voting narrows down the field, a panel composed of TCEQ staff and representatives from Waste Management of Texas, Inc., will select the final winners.

Winners are scheduled to be announced by March 2, 2026. First-place recipients will be invited to attend the annual Texas Environmental Excellence Awards banquet in June 2026.

TCEQ encourages those interested in participating or learning more about past contests to visit TakeCareofTexas.org for inspiration from previous award-winning videos.

“Take Care of Texas is a statewide campaign from TCEQ that encourages all Texans to help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste.”
