Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Deputy Commissioner Jamie Walker has received the Robert Dineen Award from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), recognized as the highest honor for a state insurance regulator.
NAIC President Jon Godfread commented on Walker’s career, stating, “Walker’s career reflects remarkable growth, dedication, and leadership in financial regulation. Beginning as an examiner trainee in 2000, she has become a nationally and internationally respected authority in the field.”
Over her tenure at TDI, Walker advanced through several positions including examiner trainee, assistant chief examiner in the Examinations Section, associate commissioner of the Licensing Services Section, and assistant deputy commissioner of the Financial Regulation Division. She was appointed deputy commissioner of Financial Regulation in 2018.
TDI Commissioner Cassie Brown praised Walker’s contributions: “For over two decades, Jamie has been a dedicated and forward-thinking regulator whose commitment to excellence has consistently elevated the standards of insurance regulation. Her leadership, expertise, and collaborative spirit make her exceptionally deserving of this prestigious recognition.”
Walker currently chairs the Accounting Practices and Procedures Task Force and participates in multiple NAIC groups such as the Statutory Accounting Principles Working Group, Reinsurance Task Force, Capital Adequacy Task Force, Financial Stability Task Force, and Group Capital Calculation Working Group.
As chair of the Group Solvency Issues Working Group, Walker played a key role in developing NAIC’s “Best Practices in Reviewing Complex Ownership Structures,” which serves as a resource for regulators nationwide.
Brown emphasized its importance: “The guidance is essential to ensure accurate identification of insurance company ultimate controlling persons and promoting greater consistency across the states.”
