The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has introduced a new support hotline aimed at assisting students experiencing homelessness and those who support them. The TEHCY Support Hotline offers toll-free, real-time access to trained experts for parents, educators, and caregivers seeking guidance or resources.

“Families should never have to navigate the challenges of homelessness alone,” said Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath. “Now, educators, parents and caregivers can pick up the phone and immediately connect with someone who understands their situation and can guide them to the right resources.”

Alongside the hotline, TEA has launched a web-based intake form that allows users to submit technical assistance requests at any time. These tools are part of broader enhancements to the TEHCY Regional Network, which partners with 20 Education Service Centers across Texas to support more than 1,200 school systems.

The TEHCY Support Hotline operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CST at 1-855-85TEHCY (1-855-858-3429). Additional resources include regional McKinney-Vento Liaisons who provide direct support and professional development for school staff working with homeless students. The TEHCY Web Portal serves as a central location for training materials, compliance guidance, and practical information on identifying and serving students facing homelessness.

These efforts are designed to strengthen compliance with the McKinney-Vento Act, which mandates that school systems identify, enroll, and support students experiencing homelessness by providing timely assistance and statewide resources.

For further information about available services or to access immediate help, individuals are encouraged to visit the TEA’s online platforms or call the new hotline.
