Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications related to severe flooding over the Fourth of July weekend. The new deadline for eligible individuals to apply is September 29, 2025, which is an extension of 25 days.
“Texans who qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance will now have until September 29 to apply,” said Governor Abbott. “By extending the Disaster Unemployment Assistance deadline, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to rebuild. Texas remains resolute in support of these communities as they work to heal and recover.”
The Presidential Disaster Declaration covers workers and self-employed people in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties who are unable to work due to damage from storms and flooding. Those affected can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631.
Applicants must submit their requests by September 29, 2025. DUA provides unemployment insurance benefits specifically for disaster victims who meet certain criteria. These include having exhausted regular unemployment benefits or not qualifying for them; being unable to work because of physical damage or destruction caused by the disaster; losing primary income sources; suffering injury as a direct result of the disaster; becoming the main household supporter due to a death; or being unable to reach their job location because travel routes are blocked by disaster effects.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) continues encouraging residents to report property damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). Information collected through this tool helps officials determine eligibility for federal assistance programs like DUA.
