Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO), in partnership with the City of San Augustine and San Augustine Main Street, will hold a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on Monday, September 29. The event will be available both virtually and in person at the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce.

“Music is key to the Texas brand,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities across our great state develop creative partnerships and create new jobs. The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide. Working alongside local leaders like those in San Augustine, we will ensure Texas communities have the tools needed to succeed.”

Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will attend the workshop to discuss what it means to become a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. She will explain the benefits of certification and answer questions from attendees.

The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community program was launched by TMO in 2016 as the first initiative of its kind nationally. It provides participating cities with resources to help grow their local music industries while connecting them to a statewide network focused on music industry development. Certification signals to industry professionals that these communities are committed to supporting music-related growth.

The upcoming workshop marks San Augustine’s initial step toward certification. Once completed, San Augustine would join more than 85 other cities across Texas that have received this designation.

Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to participate either online or at the physical location: 611 W. Columbia Street, San Augustine, TX 75972. More information about joining remotely is available through bit.ly/46GtgV3.

Questions regarding participation can be directed to Shelby Curtis, Main Street Manager for the City of San Augustine.
