The Broker Responsibility Advisory Committee (BRAC) of the Texas Real Estate Commission held its first meeting of 2026 on January 21. The committee, which focuses on brokerage practices in Texas, began by electing officers for the year. Ty Williams was reelected as presiding officer, Brian Sales as assistant presiding officer, and Marion Napoleon as secretary.

During the meeting, members discussed a range of topics affecting real estate brokers. These included the role of transaction coordinators in property transactions and the responsibilities involved when showing agents host open houses. The discussion on open houses is especially relevant following changes to Texas law under Senate Bill 1968. Other subjects addressed were how teams and team leads are identified within brokerages and the obligations of designated brokers for business entities.

Committee members indicated that some of these issues would continue to be discussed at future meetings or could be incorporated into upcoming Broker Responsibility Course materials.

Looking ahead, BRAC members requested that future agendas include intermediary requirements for business entities with the same designated broker, policies on how long a license can remain inactive, and continuing education standards needed to maintain or reactivate an inactive license.

The committee scheduled its next meetings for April 8, July 8, and October 7 of this year. Meeting materials are available for download through the commission’s website.
