The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), offering updated information on business activity across the United States. The BDS provides annual data on job creation and destruction, as well as statistics on establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns. This dataset covers trends from 1978 through 2023.

The new data can be accessed through the BDS website, the Census API, and the BDS Explorer tool. The explorer application enables users to view the full dataset using various visualization options such as line charts, bar charts, and thematic maps. Users can also create custom tables and charts to compare different measures of business dynamics.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau: “The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics.”

For more details or to access the data tools, visit the official BDS page or use BDS Explorer.
