The U.S. Census Bureau has published new data on geographic mobility and place of birth for 2024. The statistics, drawn from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, provide insights into state-to-state migration patterns as well as the current residence of people by their place of birth.
The State-to-State Migration Flows table includes figures showing how many people moved between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and to the United States from other countries. Another table details where people currently live in relation to their birthplace across these regions.
According to the Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”
These tables offer a resource for understanding recent migration trends in the United States.
