UT opens new off-campus lab space for life sciences startups

Discovery to Impact at The University of Texas at Austin has launched UT Innovation Labs, a new 10,000-square-foot wet lab in North Austin. The facility is intended to support advancements in health care and life sciences by offering private sector companies laboratory space and access to the university’s Research Core Facilities.

Mark Arnold, associate vice president of Discovery to Impact, stated, “We are excited to open the doors to UT Innovation Labs and welcome the next era of innovation in Austin underpinned by UT Austin’s academic leadership. UT Innovation Labs serves as a launchpad for companies that are merging the power of computation and AI with the intricacies of life sciences to bring to market products and treatments that will transform health care and benefit society.”

The labs provide access to resources such as the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and faculty expertise. Companies joining the labs can also use Discovery to Impact’s entrepreneurial support services, including business development, technical guidance, mentorship, and educational programs.

Equipment in the facility includes tools like the Agilent Cytation C10 Confocal Imaging Reader for advanced cell imaging and analysis. The lab offers 33 benches equipped for cell culture and computational biology work. Additional features include office spaces, meeting rooms, and a dining area.

Organizations using UT Innovation Labs become part of a startup community where they can connect with investors, collaborate with other ventures, and engage with Austin’s life sciences sector. Discovery to Impact is seeking early-stage startups focused on challenges in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and related fields.

Discovery to Impact at The University of Texas at Austin supports campus innovators by helping them disclose ideas, protect intellectual property, form commercial partnerships through licensing technologies and research collaborations.
